AirMates shows you which of your friends are at the same airport. When you both have sharing turned on, you each see where the other is. Simple reciprocity: if you are not sharing, you do not see the map.

No. AirMates only ever knows and shares which airport you are nearest to. Precise GPS coordinates are used momentarily to detect your airport and are never stored.

No. AirMates works both ways. You only see friends when you are sharing too. This keeps things fair and honest for everyone.
Most likely their sharing is off, or their last update has expired. A friend's airport only appears while their sharing is active and their location is still fresh (within 48 hours).
Your airport stops updating immediately. Your last shared location will remain visible to friends for a short time before it clears automatically.

Yes, on the native iPhone app. Your airport stays up to date even when the app is in the background, so your friends always see a fresh location without you having to open the app. On the web version, open the app and it will refresh your airport.
No. AirMates uses lightweight background location signals with minimal battery impact. The iPhone app is specifically designed to keep battery use low.
Go to Friends and tap the add button. Search for their AirMates username, then send a request. They will receive a notification and can accept or decline. Once they accept, you are both connected.
Go to Settings and scroll to the bottom. Tap Delete account. Your data is removed immediately and permanently. This action cannot be undone.
